Jamie B Golden! So happy to see your Substack finally in action! Please talk about skincare for us GenXers dealing with periomenopause. I need recommendations of what works for mature skin and at different price points please. Those TikTok / Instagram influencers with their baby skin and advice are of no use to me.
But also, is there anything I should be doing in my 30s that will help me when I do reach perimenopause?? Vitamins? Supplements? Just lots of water? Who knows
Jessica - I wish I knew about this book early on in perimenopause, but “Hot and Bothered: What No One Tells You About Menopause and How to Feel Like Yourself Again” by Jancee Dunn has really helped me understand what the heck was happening with me. Jamie recommended the book when she was on Anne Bogel’s podcast.
As an old who’s been in menopause for eons, I am so glad to see so much discussion about it everywhere. Your doctor will most likely be zero help. Crowdsource that ish.
Peri-girlies - if your GYN was useless (mine was), go to Menopause.org (it’s a medical professional association. Totally legit) There is a link that says “find a physician”. It gives you a list of actual medical doctors in your areas who have an additional training in menopause. I love my new doc. I want to erect a statue in her honor in the town square. She saved me.
I just went last week, main topic was perimenopause and looow energy and she basically said a version of live with it, this is your life now. So frustrating
Excited about varying energy level skincare routines. Am also hoping for lists/reviews of your favorite smut authors, which penthouse life choices are worth it and what we still go to Wal-Mart for, how to spot the signs of perimenopause (bc y’all got me WORRIED), and whatever other general delights you care to throw our way.
Love this post! Can you chat about the hormone/perimenopause sitch? Specifically how to think about the risks of blood clots with HRT for women in bigger bodies? Cuz perimenopause research is confusing and I’m scared of hormones but scared of myself without them. Like whoa. 🙏
Yes - I spent so much time talking to experts about this and thankfully got the answer with the medical journals to back it up (short answer: patch is fine, pill is a no-go).
WHAT A GIFT THIS WAS TO POP UP IN MY EMAIL, JBG. I am here for any and all skincare/makeup recs and also any conversations about being childfree. I am married but the thought of coordinating after school pick up with soccer practice and tantrums makes me want to get a bikini wax but instead of wax it’s a woman with tweezers going to down on my vulva.
Excellent news! Into all 5 topics so you can’t lose with me. Also, my husband (who is a former teacher) used to have a class called “Adult Spanish club”, whoopsie doodle. Hahaha. We had him change it to Spanish Lessons for Adults, but not before he got more than a few side eyes. 👀
What an absolute delight to appear in my inbox to banish the Sunday scaries! If you're willing, I would love some suggestions of your fav Dramione fan fics since I lost two full days in January to "Draco Malfoy and the mortifying ordeal of being in love" and have zero regrets. So glad you're on this corner of the internet!
I got an email from you after so many years. True love waits.
Alexa, play Rebecca St. James.

I am here to do just that! I promise to share everything I've learned and point to all the other smart folks who are talking about these things!

Christina nailed it below! I think if you can read a few great books on Menopause, then you'll know better what to expect when things get weird.

WHY WAS MY GYNO USELESS? I got a new one who is excellent but that fired one was a situation...

See my comment below. Find a new doc. When my new one and improved doc said “your quality of life matters” I nearly wept with relief.

Adding to my whiteboard...
Obsessed with all of this. The candy guide to skincare amounts was 💯💯💯
Using nuts did not bring me joy. So I found the thing that did.
Title of your sex tape.
Yassss
There’s a joke there, but I’ll refrain 😏
This is like the adult version of when the new Harry Potter was released. ⚡️🙌🏻
So excited to get this! More JBG in my life? Yes, please!!!
I will try to ration me out in a reasonable manner.

Listen. I'm surge Helga would be gentle with you.
Helga would be gentler than me dealing with children, that’s for sure.
This email was the highlight of my summer

EXACTLY. Never not funny.
Thank God. I literally googled just this past week to see if you had updated your skincare recs. We need you and you have answered the call.

Yes! This is a great topic. Smut for the perimenopausal.
Have you read Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows? Because that’s basically the point of that book. 😂
Dreams really do come true!!
TWIRLING IN MY TULLE SKIRT FOR YOU KATE
The twirling is mutual, Jamie!
